PHILOSOPHY OF THE DOJANG

Taekwondo Spirit · Taekwondo Jeongsin

The Dojo is the place of Taekwondo.

Here, we teach not only technique but also the attitude and character that give meaning to Taekwondo.

The principles of Taekwondo apply not only in the Dojo.

What is learned in training must also reflect in daily life.

예의 · Ye-ui — Courtesy and respect

  • Upon entering and leaving the Dojo, everyone bows respectfully.

  • The Master, coaches, and training partners are welcomed with respect.

  • Older individuals and higher ranks are treated with consideration.

  • Language and behavior remain courteous and respectful, in the Dojo as well as outside.

염치 · Yeom-chi — Honor and integrity

  • Everyone examines their own behavior with honesty and responsibility.

  • Mistakes are acknowledged and corrected instead of being blamed on others.

  • Strength should never be used to humiliate others or to place oneself above others.

  • Integrity is particularly revealed when no one is watching.

인내 · In-nae — Patience and perseverance

  • Arriving on time for training is a given.

  • Before the training begins, everyone starts their warm-up independently to be ready when the class starts.

  • Those who have not yet mastered a technique necessary for the next exam ask for help from a higher-ranked student and continue to practice.

  • What is not yet mastered is pursued with patience and consistent practice.

극기 · Geuk-gi — Self-mastery and self-overcoming

  • Difficulties are accepted and not avoided.

  • One's own limits are recognized, but do not quickly become an excuse.

  • Ease, doubt, and momentary setbacks do not determine one's path.

  • To surpass oneself means learning to master oneself and moving a little further each day.

백절불굴 · Baekjeol-bulgul — Indomitable spirit

  • A setback does not end the path.

  • After a mistake, one gets back up, learns, and continues to move forward.

  • Difficulties are overcome with determination and inner strength.

  • The indomitable spirit means continuing to move forward, even when the path becomes difficult.

In the Dojang

  • The Master leads the training. If the Master is not yet present at the start of the class, the highest-ranked person present takes responsibility and begins the training.

  • At each higher rank, not only does the level of skill grow, but also the responsibility – towards one's own expertise, one's own behavior, and the people who follow this path.

  • Partner exercises begin and end with a respectful bow.

  • Any injury or limitation related to health must be reported immediately to the Master or the coach.

The way of Taekwondo

"At each rank achieved, skills grow, but so does the responsibility.

A higher rank involves embodying what has been learned through one's own behavior, passing it on, and becoming an example for those who advance on their own path.

Taekwondo is learned in the Dojang.

Its spirit is revealed in life. "
